Sometimes your team includes patient partners (also called people with lived experience) who you might ask to review a manuscript before it&#8217;s submitted to a journal.<\/p>\n<p>There are lots of reasons why lived perspectives about a manuscript are important &#8211; here are a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>La r\u00e9troaction de tous les membres de l\u2019\u00e9quipe de recherche qui ont contribu\u00e9 aux travaux avant la publication et la diffusion d\u2019un manuscrit est une partie importante du processus de recherche.<\/li>\n<li>En fournissant de la r\u00e9troaction, vous vous assurez que la recherche sera pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e d\u2019une mani\u00e8re qui est facile \u00e0 comprendre, qui tient compte des patients et qui refl\u00e8te les messages qui comptent vraiment pour eux. De plus, vous aidez \u00e0 garantir que le travail aidera \u00e0 faire progresser la recherche et \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la pratique clinique future.<\/li>\n<li>All feedback is important for a manuscript &#8211; no matter if it&#8217;s based on lived, scientific or medical expertise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We&#8217;re a team that includes people with lived experience or patient partners, a researcher, and a person who facilitates patient engagement on research teams and initiatives. We&#8217;ve been part of research teams when a manuscript is circulated to the whole team without much more information than &#8220;please review and provide feedback.&#8221; For people immersed in the research environment, that instruction is probably enough.<\/p>\n<p>However, we know that providing those with lived experience on the team with more guidance about reviewing a manuscript is helpful. It&#8217;s also useful for you to provide that guidance in advance of them needing to ask. Here are our thoughts on this in a checklist &#8211; you might choose to use a lot of these items in your request for feedback. You can download the checklist and use it in your own work or pass it on to others who might benefit from this information.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/pxphub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/FR-Manuscript-Input-English-PDF-Reviewers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tT\u00e9l\u00e9charger la liste\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9l\u00e9ments \u00e0 prendre en compte dans une demande de r\u00e9troaction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Logistique<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Share with patient partners about how this task fits into a bigger picture &#8211; e.g., if you&#8217;re publishing a paper, what does the whole process look like (especially for people who are new to publishing)? You might include links to the resources above to help you with this. Provide clear instructions and offer to answer any questions they might have. Consider hosting a kick-off meeting to discuss and answer questions (note that this may need to be outside of business hours to accommodate patient partners)<\/li>\n<li>Les patients partenaires pourraient vouloir fournir leur r\u00e9troaction de diff\u00e9rentes mani\u00e8res, comme par \u00e9crit ou de vive voix. Existe-t-il d\u2019autres moyens de reconna\u00eetre leur contribution s\u2019ils ne souhaitent pas \u00eatre coauteurs?<\/li>\n<li>Les patients pourraient ne pas conna\u00eetre le processus de publication ou de demande de subvention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Contenu<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide clear instructions of what you want them to focus on or not. For example &#8211; high level comments or grammar\/typos\/editing for clarity, comments on sections\/the overall order of sections, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Are there certain areas\/sections that you would particularly like patients&#8217; feedback on? Let them know!<\/li>\n<li>Are you prepared to take the comments provided into consideration?
